(1808-1875) Seventeenth President of the United States following the death of Abraham Lincoln. His Reconstruction policies led to his impeachment by Congress. Partly-printed D.S. as President, 1p. 15.5 x 12 in., Washington, Jan. 26, 1866, the appointment of William L. Ashmore to serve as Collector of Customs in the District of Burlington, N.J., just south of New York Harbor. Bears a perfect Johnson signature, co-signed by Secretary of the Treasury HUGH MCCULLOCH (1808-1895). Trimmed closely at all four margins, with a clean one inch split at bottom margin and some cello tape at verso of left margin, else very good.
