Description
(1828-1899) Confederate brigadier general who accompanied Kirby Smith to Kentucky, and was captured at Crosby Creek, Tenn. Bold signature ‘R. B. Vance’ as North Carolina congressman on a 6.75 x 8.25 in. album page, adding ‘Asheville N.C.’ The page is additionally signed by five of Vance’s congressional colleagues: RICHARD W. TOWNSHEND (1840-1889) of Illinois and AUBURN L. PRIDEMORE (1837-1900) of Virginia above Vance’s signature; and JAMES A. MCKENZIE (1840-1904) of Kentucky, JAMES B. REILLY (1845-1924) of Pennsylvania, and AUGUSTUS A. HARDENBURGH (1830-1889) of New Jersey, on the verso. Slightly ragged at the right edge where removed from the album, faintly toned at the edges, with archival tape residue to the verso, otherwise in very good condition.
