Never had a bad experience yet!
Love this place. The auctioneers are always friendly and helpful. They answer my questions and they are very good about representing their items factually. I have found other local auctioneers to be unreliable. However, not here. I give kudos the team. Neil and Theo are great.

Nice item for fair price.
Everything was good except for their requirement to have a carrier that has a DOT. I use UShip and they usually are not paying to be apart of DOT. This way, a small shipper can bid on my shipment and I get a good price. When you use UP, FedX or a common carrier they are usually 2 to 3 times the cost. I have bought auction items in many states and have never had a problem using UShip. If it was out of state, I didn't have to pay taxes. Your requirements are that I had to pay taxes because my shipper didn't have a DOT. This is the only thing that I was not happy with.

Just to clarify, we require submission of a Bill of Lading, this is a requirement in NY, otherwise we have to collect the sales tax, feel free to look it up. On your invoice we specifically stated that the shipper had to present a Bill of Lading in order for you to have the tax marked as out of state shipping. Matter of fact, your shipper acknowledged that he had the forms, but they were in his other truck, so he could not submit the form. I'm not sure who all these other auction houses are that don't charge you tax without the submission of either a valid resale number, or a bill of lading, but that's a slippery slope. We require a bill of lading that proves out of state shipping, or a resale number, I can understand you are not happy with this, and I certainly sympathize, but we have no choice in the matter. I would suggest that if you hire a shipper, to specifically state they need to present a BOL, very few, if any would have a problem with that. With kind regards. Theo, Hudson Valley Auctioneers

Good action house, but outsourced shipping dampens the experience
Shipping was pricey and took about two months. (In fairness, Covid-19 had some hand in this.) By the time the items arrived, it wasn't exciting anymore; a good experience turned into an anti-climactic one. Speaking as a consumer, many auction houses outsource shipping, which I, like many individual collectors find annoying. The prices charged for shipping are too high and non-negotiable, and the delivery times tend to be long. Now that auctions are no longer limited to dealers, and many private collectors are participating throughliveauctioneers.com, it behooves auction houses to reform how items are moved from auction house to purchaser. I don't expect Amazon's free two-day shipping, but I would bid more often, bid higher, and bid with more pleasure and confidence if I need not dread dealing with the clunky and expensive shipping process. That's why I have awarded this transaction 4 stars instead of 5.

I apologize in regards to the shipping delay, I'm not sure who the shipper was that you picked, normally our shippers are faster than that, so there must have been a reason for that. On our site www.hudsonvalleyauctioneers.com we offer quite a few shippers, allowing our clients to shop around and compare prices. Last sale (February 15th), we sold another 200 lots of Louisa Abrams art, several big buyers that bought at that sale have already received their items, and it hasn't been two weeks.
