Length:128cm(50.39in) Width:28cm(11.02in)This fine flower-and-bird painting by Tang Yun depicts two songbirds perched on rocks amid slender bamboo. The scholar’s rock is rendered with splashed ink and dotting moss, creating a dynamic interplay of solid and void. Upright bamboo stalks are drawn with crisp lines; leaves are tinted with pale cyan and ochre for delicate layering. Two birds rest upon the rock: one spreads its wings and turns its head, while the other tilts its neck to sing. Their plumage is softly coloured, with lifelike expressions. The left side bears the artist’s inscription: *Painted by Tang Yun of Hangzhou in the summer of Xinyou, at Dashi Studio*, sealed with two red artist seals. Tang Yun was a master of Shanghai School flower-and-bird painting. Drawing inspiration from Ming and Qing painters, his brushwork is free, bright and elegant, balancing spontaneous freehand brushwork with vivid observation from life. Original old mounting, overall in good condition.
