
Description
(1735 - 1826) Second President of the United States and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence, which he also signed. He later joined Franklin and Jay to negotiate peace with Great Britain. Fine association A.D.S. 'John Adams' at the head of the document in the text and 'Adams' twice more within the text, 1p. 3 5/8 x 5 1/8 in. (sight), Braintree, Oct. 25 [n.y.], his handwritten account of sums due his legal copyist, John Vinton. Matted with a portrait and simply framed. Ex: Mary Benjamin Autographs, her description pasted to the verso of the frame. Vinton would later be captured on the Salem privateer Essex. Imprisoned, he appealed to Adams for relief in 1781-82.
