Description
Mali, Bandiagara Escarpment (Dogon peoples), ca. 19th to early 20th century. A traditional bronze or brass pendant known as a soleil (French for "sun") due to its stylized, sun-like appearance. These pieces are created using the lost-wax casting technique, often resulting in a braided or rope-like texture around the central aperture. The design typically features radiating rays extending from the center, which have historically been worn by Dogon elders or chiefs as protective amulets or symbols of status. Still has the original leather intact for stringing a lanyard. Previous private collection San Francisco. We guarantee every item as described, and have 2-3 experts look at each item to come to a consensus. Please feel free to reach out at anytime with any questions, comments, concerns or issues. We ship in house and do what we can to ensure the shipping costs are as reasonable as possible.
