Length:125cm(49.21in) Width:61cm(24.02in)Ding Guanpeng was a leading court painter during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. Famous for Buddhist and Taoist figure paintings, he combined Chinese and Western painting techniques with meticulous rendering, representing the highest standard of imperial religious painting. This work depicts Sutra-Holding Guanyin seated on a multi-layered lotus Sumeru throne. Adorned with an ornate crown and pearl necklaces, the Bodhisattva bears a compassionate and serene countenance, robed in colourful celestial garments. The right hand twirls a white pearl string, while the left holds a sutra book of *Heart Sutra*. An ornate canopy floats above amid curling clouds with rich and restrained pigments. The upper section of the scroll features the full text of *Prajñ?p?ramit? Heart Sutra* in regular script, inscribed by Heshen in the summer of the Xinhai year of Qianlong, with numerous imperial collector seals. The painting is rendered with fine, consistent outlines and sophisticated colouring. The figure is solemn and benevolent, executed with strict iconographic rules, an outstanding example of Qing court Buddhist painting. Mounted with original red and yellow brocade, well preserved
