
Description
(1817-1880) Confederate brigadier general. Commanded at Fort Donelson in 1862, but escaped capture only to be wounded while leading troops at Shiloh. He also fought at Stones River, Chickamauga, and Knoxville. Promoted major general in 1864, he saw action in Virginia during Grant's overland campaign, and at the Battle of the Crater. D.S. 'B. R. Johnson' adding rank as lieutenant, 1p. oblong 8vo, Vera Cruz, Apr. 30, 1847, in part: '...provision return for one man in the employ of the Commissary for 30 days commencing 1st and ending 30th April 1847 both days included...' Matted with a portrait and set into a carved wood frame. Very good.
