
Description
(1828 - 1868) Confederate major general, commanded the Trans-Mississippi Department and 'Hindman's Legion', fled to Mexico after the war. Returned to the U.S. to be assassinated at his Arkansas home by unknown assailants. Signed forwarding endorsement on the verso of a Apr. 12, 1864 letter seeking a two-day pass to travel to Acworth, Ga. to obtain a box of provisions. Additionally signed by two colonels. Stained and soiled on recto, still quite good.
