
Description
(1820-1909) Confederate brigadier general, one of the few born in the North, helped win one of the South’s last victories at the Battle of Natural Bridge, protecting Tallahassee from capture. Scarce manuscript D.S. ‘W Miller, 1p. large oblong folio, Tallahassee, Jan. 25, 1865, an estimate of subsistence for troops and hospitals of sub-district No. 1 of the Military District of Florida for the upcoming month. Miller signs boldly in black ink at the conclusion, adding ‘Approved’ and his rank ‘Brig Genl Comd’g’, with a commissary officer countersigning at right. Shows folds with some interior splits and paper losses thereto, with archival tape repairs and mounting remnants to the verso, otherwise in very good condition overall.
