World War Two U.S. Navy Bombing Squadron Eighteen "Sunday Punchers" (VB-18) squadron patch. The squadron was established on July 20, 1943. The patch is schiffli embroidery on twill and was removed from a jacket. Measures 4.25" in diameter. The Insignia approved by the Office of Chief of Naval Operations - CNO on January 14, 1944. VB-18 was primarily involved was in the Philippines Campaign (1944–1945), participating in several major engagements including The Battle of Leyte Gulf where during the Battle of Sibuyan Bay they contributed to the sinking of the Japanese super battleship Musashi, Battle off Cape Engano, Batttle off Samar, and strikes on Formosa (Taiwan), Luzon, and Manila Bay. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
