
Description
World War Two Bombing Squadron 11 (VB-11) squadron patch. The patch is schiffli embroidery. Measures 5.5" x 4.5". Originally VB-2 until deactivated in July 1942, the squadron was reactivated as Bombing Squadron Eleven (VB-11) on October 10, 1942. VB-11 was first deployed to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in April 1943. Operating as part of the "Cactus Air Force," they flew the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber conducting strikes against Japanese shipping, airfields, and troop concentrations in the Solomon Islands and New Georgia. Deployed on the second USS Hornet (CV-12) in 1944, VB-11 participated in strikes in the Phillipines, Formosa (Taiwan), Okinawa, and the South China Sea.
