
Description
World War Two U.S. Navy VB-18 squadron patch. The patch is schiffli embroidery on twill. Measures 5" in diameter. Established as Bombing Squadron Eighteen (VB-18) on July 20, 1943. The insignia was approved by the Office of Chief of Naval Operations - CNO on January 14, 1944. VB-18, nicknamed "The Sunday Punchers",was equipped with the Curtiss SB2C-3 Helldiver and deployed on the USS Intrepid. Campaigns included the Philippines Campaign 1944-45, participating in the Battle for Leyte Gulf including the Battle of Sibuyan Sea where they contributed to the sinking of the Japanese battleship Musashi and the Battle off Cape Engano. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
