World War Two U.S. Navy VF-84 squadron patch. The patch is schiffli embroidery. Measures 5". Established as Fighter Squadron Eighty Four VF-84 on May 1, 1944. The insignia was approved by the Office of Chief of Naval Operations - CNO on September 29, 1944. VF-84 was equipped with the Vought F4U-1D Corsair and the Grumman F6F-5P/5N Hellcat. Nicknamed the "Wolf Gang",the squadron deployed on the USS Bunker Hill and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima, Tokyo raids, and the Okinawa campaign. The unit was heavily damaged by kamikaze attacks on May 11, 1945. Pick up is Sunday, March 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
